The Children’s Fund is committed to supporting non profits in the Upper Valley that serve children. The Courtyard by Marriott Centerra and the Children's Fund of the Upper Valley have made grants to support the following community projects for 2010/2011:
Winter Carnival Snowbox Derby on March 6, 2011. Proceeds from this event support vital programs and services at CHaD such as Child Life, social work, the Injury Prevention Program and Molly's Place—the CHaD Family Center. These programs help CHaD keep its commitment to providing the highest quality of care to the children of our region.
The 6th Annual CHaD Hero Half Marathon on August 28, 2011. Challenge your body, inspire your mind, and shatter a Guinness World Record for the most superheroes in one place! This event supports high quality health care for the children of our region, and also helps teach young people about the value of community involvement and philanthropy.
CLiF has a mission to nurture a love of reading and writing among children throughout New Hampshire and Vermont. We will help CLiF donate 250 new children's books to Lamoille Community Food Share in Morrisville, VT. When families come to get food they can select a new book of their choice for each child. CLiF's Food Shelf program sponsors 20 food shelves each year. Since 1998, CLiF's 16 programs have served more than 100,000 children in nearly 400 communities throughout the Twin States.
We are the leading sponsors of the Lebanon School District's use of Lebanon Opera House. As the community's primary auditorium, almost every student in the Lebanon School District has either participated in or attended a school play, concert, awards ceremony or assembly at Lebanon Opera House. This year alone, over 1,700 students will come to Lebanon Opera House for a school event. "The students of Lebanon Schools gain a great deal from this invaluable resource," says Dianne Estes, School and Community Relations Director, Lebanon School District. "Their excitement in watching professionals perform live is palpable, and they leave inspired to create their own performances for family and friends."
Spectrum Youth & Family Services empowers teenagers, young adults, and people with a history of violence, and their families, to make and sustain positive changes through prevention, intervention, and life skills development. It is the only organization in Vermont providing all the services and support systems homeless and at-risk youth need to get their lives back on track and transition to a successful adulthood. The Children's Fund grant will supply groceries at Spectrum's Drop-In Center—a safe place for youth to get off the street, eat a hot meal, take a shower, do laundry, use the phone, and talk with a case manager—allowing them to serve two hot meals to more than 30 kids each day.
